2nd Alarm House Fire 86 Elder Ave.

On Friday evening at 10:01 hours the Bergenfield Fire Department was dispatched to 86 Elder Ave. for a reported house fire. Chief of Department C.Naylis arrived on scene in under 2 minutes and transmitted the working fire and called for a second alarm bringing a New Milford FAST unit, Englewood Truck, and Dumont Rescue to the scene. Engine companies from Dumont and Teaneck along with a Tenafly Truck company provided coverage at Alert firehouse. The BVAC and Box 54 canteen responded to provide rehab. Engine 745 under the command of Captain S.Naylis was first due and stretched an 1.75" attack line to the front door for extinguishment. Ladder 742 under the command of Captain Kneisler, III arrived and conducted primary searches and roof ventilation. Engine 744 under the command of Lt. A. Kneisler stretched and backup line while the crew from the Rescue, under the command of Lt. O'Connor provided ventilation. Eventually, the Tenafly Truck company was moved up to the scene to provide relief, and a Ridgefield Park Truck was called to cover the borough. The fire was under control within 30 minutes. Crews operated for just over two hours conducting overhaul and assisting the homeowner retrieve some valuables. There were two minor injuries to members of service while operating at this fire. They were treated and released without further incident.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. Chief Christopher Naylis would like all the units who provided assistance to the department.
