At 13:59 Hrs, the Bergenfield Fire Department was dispatched on a general alarm to the Bergenfield Pet Center at 50 S. Washington Avenue for a reported smoke condition. Chief Hartung (740) was first on scene and after establishing command, he reported a slight smoke condition in the rear of the store.

Members were sent into the store with Captain Byrnes and Captain Van Saders to investigate. The smoke condition was traced back to a GFI outlet that had failed in the basement. The smoke was vented and the store owner was instructed to have his electrician come in. Units were off the scene in a little over 60 minutes.
