Working Fire – 29 Tunure Street
|
At 1030 hrs, the Bergenfield Fire Department was dispatched to 29 Terhune St. on a reported fire in an air conditioning unit in a private dwelling. The call was made via 9-1-1 from a cell phone that automatically transfers to the County and then is relayed back to Bergenfield. The Bergenfield PD was the first on scene and reported no fire but since we have two streets that sound alike, the PD was requested to check the other street; namely Tunure Street. Upon the PD’s arrival, they reported heavy smoke showing and confirmed a working fire. Units made their way across town to Tunure Street. Engine 745 was first due and had lines stretched and ready to go as the other apparatus arrived. Deputy Chief Polandick was in command and the BFD made a quick, aggressive attack and knocked the fire down. A dog and cat were removed from the structure alive. There were no injuries to any civilians or firefighters. New Milford FD was requested to the scene as a FAST Team and a Teaneck Engine and Englewood Ladder covered the town. Units operated on scene for nearly three hours. The cause of the fire was traced back to an extension cord that ran underneath a treadmill. |
