Busy Day For The BFD

The Bergenfield FD responded on 9 calls today. They had two minor fires in residential homes due to lighting strikes, a report of flames coming from another home, which turned out to be a barbeque, a street sweeper with a minor fire and a few activated alarms. During the evening storms the BFD was dispatched to 55 Garden Street for the reported house struck by lighting. The crew from the ladder company secured the utilities and checked the entire house for a possible fire. A fire was discovered in the roof line. The ladder company along with the crew from Engine 744 began opening the exterior wall using extensive hand tool work and multiple water cans all fire was knocked down and the entire area was overhauled. Deputy Chief Kniesler remained on scene as command. As that operation was going on members were dispatched to 42 Elm Street for the reported working house fire. Chief Byrnes was in command and had a fire on the exterior of the house due to another lighting strike. Members checked in the entire interior and found no fire. The exterior fire as knocked and the section was overhauled. New Milford FD responded into Elm Street as the R.I.C. but was released shortly after their arrival. |
