The Bergenfield Fire Department was dispatched on a general alarm assignment at 17:28 hrs for a reported working house fire at 35 River Edge Road.  Deputy Chief Kniesler (DC1) arrived first and transmitted the working fire.  Chief Byrnes (740) arrived and was in command of the scene.  Engine 743 was first due and the members of Engine 745 along with truck 742 entered the structure and made their way to the basement and extinguished the fire. The BFD were able to pull a dog and two cats from the house and return them safely to the home owners.

Extensive overhaul was completed by members on scene and there were no injuries to the residents or firefighters. New Milford responded into the scene as the R.I.C. and Englewood Truck 1 and Teaneck Engine 1 stood by at Alert firehouse. Chief Byrnes would like to thank the BVAC for standing by on scene as well.
