3rd Alarm Fire – 15 Foster St.

Posted on February 2, 2007

At 08:15 hrs. the Bergenfield PD was notified via radio from one of their officers that he came upon a working house fire at 15 Foster Street. The BFD was dispatched on a general alarm assignment. While enroute to the scene, all west side apparatus was held up by a CSX freight train.  Chief Polandick (740) called for a second alarm as soon as it was apparent that units would be stuck on the westside of the tracks.

Engine 743, was first due and hit the hydrant and laid in. The chauffeur, Rich Arsi, had hand lines stretched and waiting for members to arrive on scene. The initial handline was manned by Andrew McGoldrick and Jim McGoldrick. They made a quick and aggressive attack and had most of the heavy fire knocked down in 15 minutes.  Captain Ned Kneisler handled operations and Lt. Paul Buehler was the officer inside the structure. Firefighters Ed Gomez, David Tedesco and Joe Lorz, Sr. worked inside as well.

There was no one home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Units from Englewood, Teaneck and Dumont assisted with overhaul and the New Milford FD was the F.A.S.T Team. Dumont, Bogota and Ridgefield Park covered the town. Units were cleared of the scene at 13:00 hrs.
