On Sunday morning at 0430 hrs, the Bergenfield FD was dispatched on a general alarm assignment for a reported house fire with one resident still inside the structure. Deputy Chief Gomez was first on scene and reported the fire was out. Chief Polandick (740) arrived on scene, assumed command, and instructed members from engine 745 to check for possible extension while the truck and RESCUE crews checked the rest of the structure. The occupant was able to knock the fire down using a very old fire extinguisher that he owned. Units were released in 30 minutes.
