Reported House Fire At 69 Madison Avenue

At 0254 Hrs, the Bergenfield Fire Department was dispatched on a reported house fire.   Deputy Chief Kniesler (DC2) was first on scene and called for a working fire in a detached two car garage. Ladder 742 and Engine 745 arrived on scene and immediately went to work.  Members of the ladder and THE Rescue forced their way into the garage, but the fire was out.  The garage was so well insulated that the fire lost oxygen and self extinguished itself.  The engine crew moved in a made sure there were no pockets of remaining fire. 

  Deputy Chief Byrnes assumed command shortly after is arrival.  A FAST team from New Milford was activated, but returned prior to their arrival.  The Bergenfield Fire Official was on scene and was investigating the fire.  At this time it is still under investigation.

Reported House Fire At 81 Bradley Avenue

At 1212 Hrs, the Bergenfield FD was dispatched on a general alarm for a reported working fire at 81 Bradley Avenue.  DC Kniesler arrived on scene and reported smoke showing.  Upon further investigation it was determined to be food on the stove and not a house fire.  

Reported Possible Apartment Fire

As units were wrapping up on Bradley, dispatch sounded another general alarm for a smoke condition in an apartment at 178 Howard Drive.  Units responded to that call and Captain Lodato was first on scene of a two story garden apartment complex.  Captain Lodato reported no one home and an odor present.  Units forced entry and found another unattended cooking situation with no fire.  DC Kniesler arrived on scene and assumed command. 

  While units operated on Howard Drive, Engine 744 and Ladder 748 responded to 62 Rector Court for activated alarms.  For the third time in under an hour food on the stove was to blame for the activation.

Car Vs. Bus

Just after 1800hrs the members of Alert Fire Company were dispatched to 384 South Washington Ave. for a car versus bus accident.  Chief Gomez (740), Engine 744 under the command of Captain Lopez, and Truck 742 under the command of Lieutenant Saito responded on the run.  Upon arrival, 740 instructed the Engine crew to assist the members of the Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps. with removing the driver of the car as well as stabilizing the vehicle which struck the building.  The Truck crew was tasked with assessing the damage to the building and disconnecting the car battery.  B.V.A.C. Ambulances 1 and 2 transported a total of four victims to local hospitals for treatment.  Once the vehicle was removed from the building, the damaged area was taped off and units were released.

Engine 744 On Mutual Aid Assignment To Dumont

At approximately 1705 hrs, Alert Fire Co. was dispatched on a still alarm to respond to Dumont to cover while they operated at a working fire on Manhattan Terrace.  Engine 744 responded to Dumont’s Company 2 on Prospect Avenue and covered the west while Cresskill covered the east.  They were back in town by 1900 hrs.
