Alert Fire Company was dispatched on a still alarm for a reported activated fire alarm at 73 S. Washington Avenue at 03:27 hrs. The Bergenfield PD was first to arrive on scene and reported a working fire in vacant video store. The call was upgraded to a general alarm assignment by DC 2 Kneisler, which brought the rest of the department.
Chief Gomez (740) was in command of the fire and requested a FAST team of New Milford and a 2nd alarm to cover the borough. Engine 744was first due and hit the hydrant at Bergen and S. Wash and their crew stretched an attack line to the front of the building. Ladder 742’s crew went to the roof while Engine 745 stretched a back-up line and the Rescue forced entry into the structure and worked on the roof. Members from Engine’s 743 and 747 along with ladder 748 went to the rear of the structure and worked with the roof and interior crews. The members made a quick aggressive attack and the main body of fire was knocked down quickly.
Mutual aid from Dumont, Teaneck and Englewood took in an alarm while covering the town. All units were back in service by 0600.
