2008-04-23 - At 00:17 hrs, the Englewood Fire Department requested Bergenfield’s Ladder truck to respond to their firehouse to cover the city while they operated at a working fire at 54 Forrest Avenue. Prior to the Ladder leaving quarters they were reassigned to go right into the scene. Deputy Chief Kniesler (DC2) responded with the ladder, which was under the command of Captain Mike Lopez and a crew of six. Upon their arrival they were instructed to set-up as the F.A.S.T. Team. They eventually were assigned to work on the first and second floors of the structure extinguishing fire on both floors.
Englewood also requested the Rescue respond into the scene of the fire. Deputy Chief Byrnes (DC1) responded with the Rescue, which was under the command of Captain Jim Lodato and a crew of six. Upon the arrival of the Rescue, they were initially told they would be filling bottles, but were quickly reassigned. They placed ground ladders for units operating inside the structure and were sent to the basement to work on pockets of fire and then to the roof to extinguish more hidden fire.
All units were clear of the scene in just over 2 hours.
