Ladder And Rescue To Englewood 3rd Alarm

At approximately 0915 hrs., Ladder 742 was dispatched to the city of Englewood to cover while they operated at a fire on the 2nd floor of a five story occupied multiple dwelling at 76 James Street.  Deputy Chief Kniesler and Ladder 742 under the command of Captain Lopez responded but while enroute were redirected into the scene.  When the 3rd alarm was struck, Rescue 746 under the command of Captain Lanzilotti responded into the scene.

 The crew from the ladder was sent to work in the fire room doing overhaul while members of the rescue stood by do to the heat.  Units from Teaneck, Tenafly, Fort Lee, Leonia, and Hackensack MSU assisted in the operation.  A Hackensack truck, Englewood Cliffs engine and Fort Lee engine covered the city from fire headquarters. All Bergenfield units were back in town in just over 90 minutes.

NorthSTAR Visits Bergenfield

On Sunday morning a select group of members of the Bergenfield Fire Departments Alert Fire Co. No.1 and Fire Co. #2 along with the BVAC were invited to a drill with the New Jersey State Police pilots and flight medics.  NorthSTAR landed on Vivyen Field and the crew went over procedures for approaching aircraft for landing, patient transfer and takeoff.

 The members of Alert Fire Company No.1, Bergenfield Fire Company No.2 and the BVAC would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the NJSP Pilots and Flight medics for taking their time to visit Bergenfield.

ENGINE TO DUMONT

Att 0115 HRS, the Dumont Fire Department requested an engine from Bergenfield to respond to  their firehouse on Prospect Avenuenwhile Dumont worked a fire at Blimpie’s. Engine 743, under the command of Captain Lanzilotti responded on the run. 

Shortly after their arrival they were dispatched to 60 Columbia Avenue for a report of smoke in the house.  The crew of 743 along with Dumont Engine 4 investigated the alarm.  The smoke was due to food on the stove.  Units checked for extension and removed the smoke with fans.

Two New Black Hats

Alert members Patrick Saito and Jason Mertz were elevated from Probationary members to active members at the officers meeting on August 20, 2009. Patrick and Jason join their brothers Lt. Chris Saito and Michael Mertz as active members of Alert Fire Co.

Fireman Jim Retires

On Monday, August 31, 2009, Firefighter James McGoldrick retired as a carear firefighter with the Bergenfield Fire Department after 31 years on the job.

Jim was appointed on August 1, 1978 and has been a force with the children of Bergenfield and all of the fire prevention programs the BFD runs.  Better known to the kids as “Fireman Jim” he and other membes of the department would visit the schools and stress the importance of fire safety and awareness.

The officers and members of the department would like to thank Jim for his many years of service and dedication to the Borough of Bergenfield and the Bergenfield Fire Department.  We would like to wish Jim all the best in his retirement.
