At approximately 09:25 hrs, the Bergenfield FD was dispatched on a general alarm for a reported attic fire at 166 Howard Dr. While enroute, the Bergenfield PD notified units that they were receiving additional calls on the assignment. Engine 745 was the first due engine and gave the corrected address of 156 Howard Dr. Engine 745 stretched a thief line and an 1½ attack line, but members were able to extinguish the fire with a hook and a can.

The fire started in a hallway light fixture and was contained to a single bay of the attic directly above the fixture. Overhaul was conducted to make sure that there was no additional extension and units cleared the scene in 90 minutes.

It is with our deepest regrets that we must announce the passing of our brother, Ridgefield Park Firefighter Stephen Dembski, assigned to Hazelton Heights Co. 4 Ladder 2. Firefighter Dembski served as Chief of the R.P.F.D. in 2006.
Our thoughts and prayers are with FF Dembski, his family, the members of Hazelton Heights Co. 4 and all of the members of the Ridgefield Park Fire Department.

At approximately 07:13 hrs, the Bergenfield FD was dispatched to Bogota. The ladder truck covered the borough with So. Hackensack Engine. They returned to Bergenfield at 10:30 hrs.
